When I worked at Pinecrest Camp in Ontario during the summer seasons of 1973 – 1976, one of the Counsellors-in-Training in the program I directed, started calling me Phylo. I liked the nickname but it never really stuck even though there are a handful of people who still use it today. It somehow seemed to fit with the title of this blog.
It has been a huge and uncharacteristic media week for me. Three items have hit the airwaves and on Sunday, CBC’s Colleen Jones is doing a story on the adventure Brad and I are undertaking in the Bluenose Marathon.
Countdown to GoodLife FITNESS 10K Run
I suspect you know we are registered in the Goodlife FITNESS 10k Run. Brad is running and I am riding in an Hippocampe Wheelchair he is pushing. I will walk the start and the finish under my own power although I made need Brad’s arm to maintain balance. I’m so excited for this life milestone which I’m sure will be the source of memories I will hold dear as long as I’m taking a breath on this blue dot we call Planet Earth. Oorah!

CTV’s Natasha Pace met Brad and me on Monday morning for pictures, video, and an interview in order to prepare an article that ran at the end of Live at 5 later in the day.
On October 6th, I recorded a session with Sick Boy Podcasts. It was released on Monday and I was surprised at how much fun I had listening to the session.
The Chronicle Heralds Sports Reporter Glen Sampson interviewed Brad and me earlier in the week and that article went live today (Friday, November 5th).
Countdown to GoodLife FITNESS 10K Run
The clock is counting down to the start of the Goodlife FITNESS 10K Run on Sunday, November 7th, at 8:15 am. We are still a couple of thousand dollars short of our fundraising goal for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax. No pressure but if you’re so inclined, you can contribute with the following web address:
The outpouring of love and support for the Run/Ride Brad and doing on Sunday morning, November 7th is staggering and gratifying. It warms my heart to have so many people cheering us on and all those who now plan to join us on the course in 10 km and/or meet us at the Finish line are epic. So, allow me to express my deep and genuine appreciation. It is heartfelt.
With that said, a more tangible action like a contribution to the fundraising campaign for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax would excite me more and potentially send me into a spontaneous dance for joy. You can do that at the following web address:

As Brad mentioned in our BBBS Alumni article below, “We may not have many opportunities like this moving forward but will milk every moment we have.”
