Equipment

I use this page to let you know about my kit.

My Ride

My bicycle is a Neon Green Giant Anyroad Advanced 1.

The frame, fork, and seat-post are advanced-grade composite.

The shifters and derailers are Shirmano 105. The brakes are TRP Spyre-C, mechanical disc, 160mm. The cassette is Shimano CS-5800 11×32, 11-Speed. The crankset is a Shimano RS-510, 34/50.

The rims are Giant PX-2 Disc, Tubeless. The hubs are Giant Performance Tracker Disc, Sealed Bearings, 12mm axles, 32h. The spokes are Sapim Race, 14/15g and the tires are Giant Crosscut Tour 2, Tubeless, 700×30.

I weighed Kermit today stripped down of all the bags. With the Areo-bars, pump, bottle holders, and rear fender, the weight is around 25 lbs.

I added a rear fender recently to reduce road residue coming up my back.

Camping Gear

The Hilton !@$%^%
  • 1-person tent. I was torn between a Bivy and Tent. To my surprise, I learned last year I felt somewhat claustrophobic in the Bivy. Clearly the additional space and weight of the tent will help with a better night’s sleep. As an aside, it will be easier to get out of the tent when nature calls and at my age, sadly that’s a little more regular than I like.
  • Inflatable mattress. I have a half mattress. It provides a cushion from head to butt. That is all I need. It packs into a small bag very nicely and is very light.
  • Sleeping Bag. The bag I have packs small and is very light. I found myself too warm in Denmark last year but it was July. I suspect it will be a different story in the Netherlands during May nights.
  • Inflatable pillow. This may seem like a luxury. My prior experience was to stuff bags with clothing. The problem for me was it was different each night and made it more difficult to get to sleep and stay asleep. The inflatable is tine and adds insignificant weight.

All my sleeping gear hangs in bags under the Areo Bars. By the way, I’m not one to use the Areo bars. They do prove useful for holding equipment.

Bike Bags

  • Compression Bag on Areo Bars for sleeping gear including a sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, and inflatable pillow.
  • Revelate Designs Sweet Roll for the tent, personal hygiene pack, and first aid kit. Tent pegs attach to the bag and the tent poles are strapped to the Down Tube.
  • Small zip pouch for snacks on the Areo Bars.
  • Small poach on the right of the head tube for a water bottle, with outside sleeves for Canadian Flag pins, lip balm, etc
  • Gas Tank for Power Packs, wallet and lock key.
  • Riding Glasses Bag with cleaning rag.
  • Frame Bag for Health and Well Being items, Repair items, batteries, etc.
  • Seat Bag for clothing.
